For an oil injected screw air compressor, the lubricating oil is of great importance to its longevity and performance. Generally speaking, the lubricating oil has the following five functions:
Cooling the Compressing Chamber
The clearance of screw rotors is generally 5-12um and when the air is compressed inside, its temperature could reach around 130℃.
Normally the bearings are not allowed to work above 100℃ for very long time. Moreover, high temperature will also lead to compressor shut off, compressing efficiency lowering and parts damaging.
Lubricating oil could effective take away the heat generated within the compressing chamber and lower the temperature to the normal working degree.
Sealing to Increase Compressing Efficiency
Lubricating oil could increase sealing degree between male rotor and female rotor, as a result the compressing efficiency increased.
What’s more, sealing could also be strengthened between rotors and chamber covering and the compressor volumetric efficiency could be increased.
Lubricating and Reducing Frictions
The male rotor of screw compressor drives the female rotor. The injected lubricating oil in the compressing chamber could form oil membrane between male and female rotors to avoid or reduce frictions.
Meanwhile, the oil could also lubricate the bearings and gears.
Noise Reduction
The friction between mechanical parts could cause large noise. Lubricating oil could reduce frictions between mechanical parts and thus lower the noise level.
Corrosion Protection
The lubricating oil could isolate the metal parts from the moisture in the air. So the metal parts could be protected from being rusted.
