Engineering Plastics - PEEK High Performance Materials

11 Feb.,2025

Polyether ether ketone (PEEK) is a high-performance engineering plastic with excellent mechanical properties, high temperature resistance, and chemical stability. Widely used in aerospace, medical equipment, chemical, automotive industry, and electronics fields. Understand the performance characteristics and application areas of PEEK, and explore its important role in the engineering field.

Introduction: In the world of engineering plastics, polyether ether ketone (PEEK) has attracted much attention for its unique performance characteristics and wide application fields. PEEK is known as the king of plastics not only for its excellent mechanical properties, high temperature resistance, chemical stability, and wear resistance, but also for its successful applications in many fields.

1. High temperature resistance: The glass transition temperature (Tg) of PEEK is 143 ℃, and its melting point (Tm) is 334 ℃. Its load thermal deformation temperature can reach up to 316 ℃, long-term usage temperature is 260 ℃, and instantaneous usage temperature can reach 300 ℃.
2. Self lubrication: PEEK exhibits good sliding characteristics and is suitable for low friction coefficient and wear resistance situations.
3. Corrosion resistance: Except for concentrated sulfuric acid, PEEK is insoluble in any solvent and has high chemical stability.
Flame retardancy: PEEK has self extinguishing properties, even without any flame retardants, it can reach UL standard 94V-0 level.
4. Workability: PEEK has good high-temperature fluidity and can be processed using various methods, such as injection molding, extrusion molding, compression molding, and melt spinning.
5. Mechanical characteristics: PEEK has good toughness and rigidity, and superior fatigue resistance.
6. Electrical performance: PEEK has high volume resistivity and surface resistivity, maintaining good insulation performance.
7. Hydrolysis resistance: PEEK is not affected by the chemical effects of water and high-pressure steam, and can be continuously used in high temperature and high-pressure steam or water environments while maintaining good mechanical properties

The application areas of PEEK

PEEK has become the preferred high-performance engineering plastic due to its comprehensive performance, and is widely used in the following fields:
1. Automotive industry: used for manufacturing engine covers, automotive bearings, gaskets, seals, clutch rings, bumpers and other components.
2. Aerospace industry: manufacturing components such as cable clamps, sheaths, aircraft parts, etc.
3. Mechanical manufacturing: producing compressor valve plates, piston rings, seals, pump bodies, valve components, etc.
4. Electronic information industry: used for manufacturing electronic components, silicon wafer racks, multi-layer printed circuit boards, etc.
5. Nuclear energy industry: Due to its radiation resistance, it is used for cable wrapping, wire insulation systems, etc.
6. Medical field: As an artificial bone and joint material, it has good biocompatibility and high temperature resistance.
