On the 12th, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce stated that China's attitude and sincerity in seeking solutions through dialogue remain unchanged. The country has formally invited the EU to send a technical team to China as soon as possible for face-to-face discussions, and is fully prepared for this. It hopes that the EU will reciprocate by arranging visits promptly and advancing negotiations constructively to reach a satisfactory resolution soon.
A reporter asked about progress in negotiations regarding the EU's anti-subsidy case against electric vehicles after over 20 days of talks, noting that China's team had returned home today. Additionally, reports indicated that the European Commission is negotiating price commitments with certain companies separately. What is China's comment on this? The spokesperson provided the above response.
The spokesperson mentioned that on September 19, Minister Wang Wentao met with Valdis Dombrovskis, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission and Trade Commissioner. Both sides agreed to continue pushing forward negotiations on price commitment agreements related to anti-subsidies for Chinese electric vehicles. Over more than 20 days starting from September 20, technical teams from China and Europe held eight rounds of intensive discussions in Brussels. Significant progress was made in some areas through hard work; however, there are still major differences due to insufficient positive responses from the EU regarding core concerns raised by industry stakeholders during these talks.
Regarding the second question, the spokesperson emphasized that China has engaged sincerely with goodwill in dialogues with Europe. Different types of Chinese enterprises have authorized their representative body—the China Electromechanical Industry Association—to propose a price commitment plan reflecting overall industry positions as a basis for current negotiations. If Europe conducts separate price commitment talks with individual companies while negotiating with China simultaneously, it could undermine trust and disrupt overall negotiation processes. China hopes that Europe will demonstrate sincerity by addressing core industry concerns seriously and reaching an acceptable solution based on ongoing discussions as soon as possible.
