Attention to ICU nursing beds and equipment

27 Mar.,2025

Due to the different conditions of patients in ICU wards compared to those in regular wards, their ward layout design, environmental requirements, bed functions, peripheral equipment, etc. are all different from those in regular wards. Moreover, ICUs with different specialties require different equipment. The design and equipment configuration of the ward should be based on the principles of meeting needs, facilitating rescue, and reducing pollution.
For example: laminar flow equipment. The pollution prevention requirements in ICU are relatively high. Consider using laminar flow purification facilities to reduce the risk of infection. In the ICU, the temperature should be maintained at 24 ± 1.5 ℃; The temperature in the elderly patient ward should be around 25.5 ℃.
In addition, each ICU unit's small operating room, dispensing room, and cleaning room should be equipped with reflective hanging ultraviolet lamps for regular disinfection, and an additional ultraviolet disinfection vehicle should be provided for regular disinfection of unmanned spaces.
In order to facilitate rescue and transfer, sufficient power supply should be ensured in ICU design. It is best to have dual and emergency power supply, and important equipment should be equipped with uninterruptible power supply (UPS).
Multiple gas pipelines should be installed in the ICU, preferably using central oxygen supply, central air supply, and central vacuum suction. Especially with central oxygen supply, ICU patients can receive continuous and large amounts of oxygen, eliminating the need for frequent replacement of oxygen cylinders and avoiding possible contamination of oxygen cylinders that may be brought into the ICU. The selection of ICU beds should be suitable for the characteristics of ICU patients and should have the following functions:

1. Multi position adjustment can meet different clinical needs.
2. Patients can be assisted with turning over through foot or handheld control.
3. Easy to operate and capable of controlling the movement of the bed in multiple directions.
4. Accurate weighing function. In order to closely monitor changes in fluid exchange, fat burning, sweat secretion, etc.
5. Back X-ray imaging needs to be completed in the ICU, so it is necessary to configure the X-ray box slide rail on the back panel.
6. Able to move and brake flexibly, facilitating rescue and transportation.

At the same time, the headboard of each bed should be equipped with:
1 power switch, a multi-purpose power socket that can connect 6-8 plugs simultaneously, 2-3 sets of central oxygen supply devices, 2 sets of compressed air devices, 2-3 sets of negative pressure suction devices, 1 set of adjustable brightness head lights, and 1 set of emergency lights. A double-sided functional column should be set up between two beds, which is equipped with power sockets, equipment shelves, gas interfaces, call devices, etc.
Monitoring equipment is the basic equipment of ICU. The monitor can monitor real-time and dynamically waveforms or parameters such as multi-channel electrocardiogram, blood pressure (invasive or non-invasive), respiration, blood oxygen saturation, temperature, etc., and can analyze and process the measured parameters, store data, and replay waveforms.
