10 Advantages of Using a Hydraulic Press

21 Feb.,2024

Hydraulic presses are a staple in the manufacturing industry for their versatility and reliability.

Since the 1940's, we have known the impressive power of hydraulic presses, providing many advantages to those who utilize them.

Below we share 10 of the advantages of using a hydraulic press.

1. A Wide Range of Designs

There are many different types of hydraulic presses suitable for different  applications. Some of the different types of presses are; Vertical H-frame style, C-frame presses, Horizontal presses, Movable table presses, Tire presses, Movable frame presses, and Lab presses.

Each design is also available with single or double acting workhead, and manual, air or electric operation. The hydraulic press is extremely versatile!

2. Smooth Pressing

Hydraulics give you smooth, even pressure throughout the ram stroke. This allows tonnage to be achieved at any point of the ram travel unlike mechanical presses where you only get the tonnage is at the bottom of the stroke.

3. Feel the Pressure

Arbor presses are great when the application requires “feel” for manually pressing items at lower pressures, as well as low production parts.

Hydraulic presses, however, are designed for the real tough jobs that require high production, high tonnage, or variable controls to make short work for your pressing needs.

4. Pressure Control

Many hydraulic presses have pressure relief valves available. You can dial in whatever pressure you require and the press will repeat that preset pressure consistently taking the guesswork out of the equation of too much or too little pressure.

5. Lifting and Pressing Ability

Many presses feature double acting cylinders which means you have lifting force as well as pressing forces. Any tooling attached to the ram can easily be raised with double acting cylinder.

6. Adaptability

Hydraulic presses can be adapted to your applications. Some common adaptations include; traversing workheads, pressure control, nose pieces, dual palm buttons, daylight modifications, and more.

Talk to a Dake representative about your modification needs, chances are we have done it before!

7. Simple Design

Hydraulic presses are simple in design, easy to operate and, when used and maintained properly, will last for many years with trouble free operation.

Since there are few moving parts, up keep is minimal, cutting maintenance costs.

8. Consistent Pressure Tonnage

No matter which type of press you choose- electric powered pump, air powered or manual operation- the tonnage in the end will be the same.

Electric and air operated models will make getting up to tonnage faster and easier, but manual operation will yield the same end results.

9. No Experience Needed

Choosing the right machine can sometimes be a daunting task, but knowing three things can make selecting your hydraulic press easier; size, pressure, and speed. Size is the largest part you will be using the press on, which will dictate the press opening.

Pressure is how much pressure is required for your operation. We recommend that you always double the required tonnage, for safety and long press life. Speed is how often you will be cycling the press for your application.

If you can supply us with answers to these three questions we have the experience to help you choose the right machine for your application.

10. May the Force Be With You

Dake offers many different tonnages that create the force you need. From 10 tons to 200 tons in our standard offering and higher tonnage models available for custom pressing needs, we have the press you are looking for.
